Why I Love and Value Photography

Photography is most definitely a passion of mine. It all started with me when I was a young girl. I was finally allowed to use the family point and shoot. I was documenting whatever I could, the flowers in the backyard, my family, even my friends. I even started creating collages and scrapbook photo albums before I knew they we actually a thing. Here is a list of reasons why I love and value photography in my life.

1- Documenting life through imagery

Capturing moments planned and unplanned. Looking back on the images allows me to relive some of the best moments in life. Some also remind me of challenging moments that I was able to learn and grow from. I can share my life with my children. Our legacy will live on through images captured, collected, and curated into photo albums or scrapbooks, as well as a collection of portraits on the walls of our home.

2 - Creating emotional artwork

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. An image is about more than a pretty picture in pretty light. Freezing time, capturing an emotion or feeling. Landscape photography pulls you into a setting; allows you to imagine you are there. Portrait or lifestyle photography can put you in the moment that was captured. Allow you to relive it if it was your moment or feel the emotion of others that experienced it.

3- Connecting with other people

I enjoy connecting with the subjects in front of my camera. Whether it is my family, friends, or clients, I strive to bring out the subject's emotion and essence. When someone is in front of a camera, most people feel nervous and exposed. I love getting to know my clients and sharing my vulnerabilities so that they can be comfortable in front of my camera. This allows me to create authentic images that exhibit emotion and connection. We as humans need to feel connected, and through these connections, beautiful relationships and imagery can be made.

4- Home decor with a personal impact

I love to see images of my family around my home and on the walls. When I walk through my house, I can feel all the love and emotion from the photographs around me. I have reminders of family vacations, my children as they have grown, my family, and those that matter most to me.

My artwork is priceless; It can not be replicated and will not be in anyone else's home unless I have shared the images with them.

5- Increasing self-esteem and confidence in others

Children who see their images on the walls of their home have a better sense of belonging and confidence. They feel loved every time they look at those images. Teens who lack self-esteem gain a bit back every time they feel seen or heard. A professional portrait of the teen gives them positive reinforcement that they are significant and their presence matters. I enjoy creating portraits that express the love and value of oneself.

Can you put a value on a portrait, an image, or the experience of a photography session? I know all of those photographs I took throughout my life are priceless. Every time I participated in a session with a professional photographer, I felt important and pampered. When I see these images in albums or on the wall, I experience all those emotions all over again. I believe the value of photography is immeasurable.

Do you have a milestone you or your child needs to be documented? Do you have a teen who needs to feel special? Or do you just need a fresh family portrait this year? If you are considering professional portraits, contact us to plan your session.
