What Are Senior Portraits and Why Do You Need Them?

It's summertime which means a new class of rising seniors is getting ready for their Senior year of High School. The senior year of high school marks a lot of milestones for the average teenager. What is on their minds? What colleges to apply to? How to spend their last year of high school with the friends they've grown up with before heading away from home? Do they think about their senior photos? Senior portraits are the perfect way to acknowledge all that they've done in their life so far and a way to celebrate all the things the future holds.

But what exactly is a senior photo? Is it the same as a yearbook photo? NO! There are huge differences between a senior photo session I do for my clients and a traditional yearbook photo. Read on to find out more...

The yearbook photo is not the best way to capture your senior year.

A typical school or yearbook photo is typically unnatural and not creative. This photo just documents a quick click and not the true essence of the child.  Everyone looks the same - there is no sense of style and self-expression. With a senior photo shoot, their personality shines through. Each session is planned according to each client. Seniors can wear whatever they want and have more than one outfit to really showcase their personality. Personal props can be incorporated; choose a few different locations to showcase who they are and what they love. Some seniors even bring a friend or two along. Each client can pick what works best for them, from an ocean seaside, a country field to an urban downtown location, or anything in between.

There are many ways to enjoy your senior images.

As an added bonus, senior portraits are good for more than just looking pretty in a lovely picture frame. Mom and Dad, I know you want that stunning image on the wall to remember your teen when they no longer live at home. But these images are also a great way to customize graduation announcements. Creating customized cards that use a photo of the young grad is a great way to show family, friends, and everyone else what an incredible person they've grown into. Books or albums are also an excellent way for the seniors to commemorate and memorialize who they are at this time of their life. It is also convenient to take to college as well.

The entire process of a senior photoshoot is an experience.

This is where we get to know one another. I make sure to help each client feel comfortable in front of the camera; I spend time with them and guide them throughout the entire session. Unlike a yearbook photo, which is a process of getting as many seniors through as possible, a senior session allows me, the professional, to guide you, the senior, through the process and make sure you get the most out of your experience. After all, you are only a high school senior once, and I want to make it as memorable as possible.

After our session, I guide you and your parent or parents through the order process. I show you a slideshow of the images and help you pick the products that fit your needs best. Images that allow you to show off your photos in various ways, large artwork, books, or graduation announcements, you can choose what works for you. We can also create something special just for you. This is all about you, and I am with you throughout the entire process.
